Billetworkz Short Shifter – Subaru BRZ / Toyota GR86 2022+

Great product, brings a gated feel along with its 30% shorter shift pattern. Very premium 👍🏼👍🏼

The kit was fairly easy to install. I was nervous because I don't currently have an adequate safe way to lift the vehicle. I was able to complete the entire install from inside the vehicle. A nicer pair of snap ring pliers and a smaller pair of snap ring pliers would have made this easier; the pair I had were swappable, but not sturdy and the retaining pin would get in the way of tight spaces. Once complete, this thing feels amazing. The reverse lockout spring has a little more tension on it. The gloss black really pops and gives it an oem+ appearance. The bright yellow shift knob I paired with it also pops. It isn't an exact match for the yuzu yellow of my gr86 so I ordered a Black knob and am passing the yellow onto someone less picky.

Love this short shifter so so much! Super clicky and notchy and I love that the reverse lockout is metal. I don’t think I could be any happier with my Black Friday purchase this year!

Straight forward installation, just follow the Billetworkz install video. Hardest part is the shift and select lever (linkage) dust boot. Looks awesome too, see attached pic. Headingfor a ride to do some rowing.

I like it and I think it is good; I don’t love it or think it is life changing, lol. There is a tiny, faint rattle under load at high RPM but coming from an IRP and then a CAE chassis mounted setup, it’s really no issue by comparison. I’d imagine if you have a super loud exhaust you may never hear it. I’m going to let the grease inside the reverse lockout “wear in” and see if the rattle fades (wishful thinking, I know). Throws are shorter than stock but even combined with my Perrin rear shifter bushing I wouldn’t call them super tight or notchy—it feels mostly stock in that regard. Maybe a lighter shift knob will help the feel, we’ll see. 4/5 is a fair assessment of it. If you need “a bit better than stock” this nails it. If you need “great feel at any NVH cost” go with a chassis mounted or try another setup. Cheers!

Feels good, definitely a noticeably shorter throw. The install was easy and fast (Note: you do not have to get under the car like they show in the installation video everything is easily accessible from the top, not exactly sure why they said u need under the car)

This shifter feels fantastic and I wish I would’ve done it sooner. I had a little issue mainly getting under the the car, so I opted to do from in the cabin which went pretty well. While it was a little more to do than I expected, Wow!!! The shifts are so knotchy and crisp. Also I’m so happy they included an extra linkage clip which I needed. Last thought, definitely worth the install kit. I love the look of the new lock out as well I bought to and absolutely love them both! Probably need to pick up another one! Nice work Billetworkz

Excellent made part and high quality. The install was very strait forward and the instructional video was helpful. The throws do feel shorter and actually tighter. This is also my first weighted shift knob and what a difference that makes. My GR is brand new so I didn’t buy the additional install parts but I should have. For the small cost, it would save a decent amount of time. As others did, I too did the full install right from the drivers seat. No real need to be under the car other than to make helpful install vids.

This is a great shifter. Solid, quality construction, easy to install, great customer service. The shifter shortened the throws and feels notchier and more engaging without changing anything else. I'm using the weighted GR shift knob and it fits perfectly without any modifications. If you want a short shifter, this is a great option. Also, it's worthwhile to get the installation kit with it. The little plastic inserts in the bottom of the lever wouldn't come out and cracked, so I had to order the install kit after the fact. In retrospect, I should've just done it from the start as it would've saved me the wait time and shipping cost.

Feels good shifting with shorter throws. Although the install had a lot of steps, it was pretty easy. You just gotta have a patience and use a little common sense. I didn't even have to go buy under neath. Silver looked good with the custom sledge knob.

I am using this shifter paired with a Billetworkz weighted shift knob, and let me tell you. This completely changes the driving experience. It's so satisfying shifting through gears! Get this! Amazing product backed by good customer service. I would easily give this a 5 star if I could get rid of rattles I'm having.

Update:
Billetworkz sent me revised washer and snap ring for the factory shift linkage to help with rattles. The washer didn't get rid of rattles completely, but it definitely reduced rattles. 10/10 for customer service.

If you are considering a short throw for your 86/brz this is the one. Not only does the billetworkz shifter give you the perfect shorter throw but you get an amazing shift feel. All the parts are high quality and it feels so nice in your hand. Furthermore, the customer service experience that I had was one of the best. Thanks Austin!

Great customer service. Short shifter was easy to install did everything from inside the car. Good quality product. Spend the extra couple bucks on the shifter all set up and ready to go in. 100% worth the extra couple bucks.

The Geometry upgrade from the Shifter is amazing, shifts are crisper and quicker, feels awesome. but there is so much metal on metal rattling coming from the small clearances in the shifter even after lithium grease that I am still troubleshooting and that takes a lot of the quality points away.
Overall still a good upgrade, just not exactly ecstatic about the rattles at 4k+ rpms.

I didn't think you could beat the stock shifter. It felt great in terms of throw and engagement. I should have known better. Billetworkz knows what they were doing. The install was tedious, but not because of Billetworkz, because the tedious removal of plastics in the interior, then getting under the car. All that aside, the install is beyond easy.

The shifter is noticeably short, feels less plastic, and is very engaging. It feels heavier than stock, but I actually appreciate that because you feel yourself in gear with no doubt. The throws are VERY short. The claim is 30%, but it feels like more. Billetworkz just knocked it out of the park. 10/10 recommend.

I bought the short shifter and the shift knob in red. The 2 reds don’t match and are way off in colour. Please make sure you choose a contrast colour if you buying both.

Install was pretty simple. I was able to get everything in from the inside of the car. The throws are nice and crisp and it makes the driving experience more enjoyable.

Significantly reduces the throws compared to the stock shifter, feels very good and notchy in the best ways. Faster shifting helps get smoother downs shifts because you spend less time shifting so you can throw it into gear before the revs drop.

Short Shifter - 2022+ BRZ/GR86

I've had a couple of the Billetworkz short thrown shifts now, in a couple different model year GR86s. They are incredible! Super tight shift pattern... really clean. I also had a Toyota OEM short throw in my 2020 86... the OEM was flat out lame, especially in comparison to the Billetworkz shifter. The Billetworkz product is superior craftsmanship, build quality, manufacturing materials, and doesn't loosen up and get sloppy over time. It's truly wonderful, I can't recommend it, or the company, more highly! Thanks for everything you all do, Billetworkz team! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's to you all!

The rattle that forums mention seem to have been almost entirely fixed. There's occasionally a ghost of a buzz in second gear but 99.9%+ of the time this is spot on for what I wanted, a nice *snick snick* sounding shifter that tightens the gates. Can be slightly notchy when cold but smooths up after warm-up.
