I first purchased shift knob thinking that is all I needed, but upon initial installation I found that there was a significant space below the cue ball type knob and rest of the shift threaded rod. I came back and ordered the boot retainer mostly to fill the gap between boot and knob. This proved to be an excellent choice. The retainer included a zip tie to secure the boot to the retainer, but I skipped that.I don’t think I need it. The boot restsup against the underside of the shift knob. I really like the finished look. And the shift knob is so heavy in the hand, I love the feel.

Awesome. Just awesome for my MX5 ND. The color meshes very well with my Soul Red interior, and for me it accentuates the matte black shift knob I paired it with. I think I've made a good decision in not cheapening out, ordering the red cosmic space variant rather than buying the solid candy red one (for only $10 more) 😂

I can’t say enough good things about the products Billetworkz produces. After installing a new leather shifter boot, I was finally able to add this 10 x 1.25 mm retainer at the base of my Candy Red Billetworkz stainless steel weighted shift knob. The result looks phenomenal and truly completes the shift knob upgrade. I highly recommend this product!

Took care of the gap between the Billetworkz knob and the Mazda boot. It was fairly easy to install after watching the video linked on line.

Only issue with install was a small metal collar that needed to be removed before the shift boot retainer would fit properly. Definitely worth the price and should be bought with the shifter to complete the look.
